Have you ever borrowed something and lost it? How did you try to find it?

I borrowed a pen once so i could write, after i finished the writing i just put it on top of my desk, and go wash my hand, after i get back to my desk the pen suddenly disappeared

I look around my desk and ask my friend have any of them seen it
